Nick Ludtke is a pool designer at Presidential Pools & Spas. After being in the pool business as long as Nick has, he knew exactly what features were most important when designing his own backyard.
In this interview Nick answers questions about his backyard swimming pool and the design decisions that went into it.
What was your goal with this pool? How did that influence the design?
My goal of this pool design was a mix of exercise, fun, and relaxation. The 40 foot length is designed to allow me to swim laps during triathlon training while the water features and extra large Baja step are for our dogs and 2-year-old daughter. We wanted something unique and “out of the box” with zero edge spa with a recliner bench for the ultimate “chill factor”.
Can you talk about the benefits of turf?
Turf was an easy decision. Zero to low maintenance. Savings from not having to water it like normal grass. It looks great year round!
Best decision!
What is your advice to someone starting to think about their pool design?
When designing a pool, make a list of the top three things you want. These could be size, shape, water features, or whatever else.
Don’t settle.
What do you like most about this design?
I love the design because it has everything for everyone. Swim laps, hang by the table, play in fountains on the Baja step, hot tub. One stop shop!
