EASY FOOD INSPIRATION FOR YOUR OLYMPICS-THEMED SUMMER POOL PARTIES

Did you see The Today Show this morning? The whole crew hosted U.S. Olympians like swimmer Ryan Lochte and gymnast Gabby Douglas to officially launched NBC’s coverage of the upcoming 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. The games don’t even start until August! What does this tell us? This summer is going to be all about the Olympics!

So how can you and your friends get in the spirit (and find a great excuse to throw yet another pool party)? Below are deliciously festive food ideas for your next Olympics-themed pool party.

Red, White & Blue Salad

Pair all your favorite greens with red (i.e. watermelon, strawberries, raspberries), white (i.e. feta or goat cheese, bananas), and blue (i.e. blueberries, blackberries) foods!

If you want something more portable, consider putting all the same foods on skewers, creating fruit & veggie kabobs.

Barbell Boosters

Use pretzel sticks as barbells. Add cheese squares, grapes, olives, or another food on each end.

Torch Treats (Healthy)

Cut yellow, orange and red peppers into thin slices. And have the kids help mold torches out of aluminum foil!

Torch Treats (Indulgent)

It turns out ice cream cones look like Olympic torches. Fill them with orange sherbet, yellow M&Ms or another favorite treat.

Brazilian Pineapple

Experience a treat inspired by the host country. Put pineapple wedges in a large bag with brown sugar (roughly 1 cup) and cinnamon (roughly 2 TSP). Shake until covered. Grill wedges for 3 to 5 minutes on each side.

Torch Taster

Start with ice and Sprite/7Up (adults may consider adding vodka). Add two dashes of orange juice, followed by one dash of grenadine. Colorful – and delicious!
