HOW TO PREVENT CALCIUM LINES IN YOUR POOL

Have you ever seen thick white lines on the tile right at the water surface level of your pool? Those are called calcium lines, and are a result of excess calcium buildup in the pool. Calcium lines can cost hundreds of dollars to remove if you allow them to build up over time.

The best pool maintenance strategies are proactive. Here are tips on how you can prevent these calcium lines from establishing in your pool:

Tip #1: Test pool levels regularly to make sure calcium hardness levels are between 200-350 parts per million.

This is essentially testing how hard or soft your water is at any given time. You can do this step by purchasing calcium test strips or a calcium hardness test kit from your local pool supply store.

Tip #2: Make scrubbing the tiles on the pool a regular part of your pool maintenance.

Use a wire brush and scrub the tile on a weekly basis, even using a little bit of tile cleaner with the brush every now and then.

Tip #3: If you can’t seem to get the calcium levels below 350 parts per million, backwash your pool at the pool filter, as long as you don’t live in an area where the water hardness is already high.

This will replace your pool with fresh water and allow you to hopefully get your chemicals back on track.

If calcium lines persist after trying these maintenance strategies, call in an expert to see what additional care you need.
